BIO

The Cat's Pajamas Old School Jazz Band is just what our name describes.  From early New Orleans- inspired sounds to the hot Chicago jazz of the Roaring 20's, the Cat's bring both great energy and great music to the stage.  Admirers of the past but not stuck in it, we also enjoy "retro-fitting" more modern songs with an early jazz style.  Afterall, that's what the creators of the music did anyway.

When domesticated, us Cat's live in Lititz, Pennsylvania, but like most felines, we like to get out and roam the neighborhood. In other words, we like to travel!

Meet the Cats:

Todd Fulginiti- trumpet/vocals

Faith Shiffer-clarinet

Mark Rutter- trombone/vocals

Chuck "The Flavor" Oettel- guitar

Mike Vitale-bass

Doug Kulp-drums

Faith Shiffer's colorful clarinet lines fill up The Cat's sound and give the music the energy and flourishes so essential to traditional jazz. Besides playing with The Cat's, Faith is in high demand as a freelance woodwind specialist and is also a professor at Elizabethtown College.

Todd Fulginiti fills the traditional jazz trumpet player's role of laying down strong melodies and leading the ensemble. He also contributes on vocals and wooden spoons. Outside The Cat's, Todd is a freelance writer, freelance musician, and owner of Todd Fulginiti Music, performing with and leading most of the groups on the roster.

Mark Rutter gets the party started with his boisterous trombone playing and infectious, fun-loving personality. Always a crowd favorite, Mark brings a touch of comedy to the stage along with his strong musicianship.

Chuck Oettel recently received the nickname, "The Flavor" for his energetic, refreshing style of guitar and banjo play. His unmistakable sound gives the rhythm section a special appeal. Chuck can also be seen performing with his jazz combo, Swing Street.

Mike Vitale's in-the-pocket bass lines keep the entire band in the old school groove. And when the energy builds, you can count on Mike to "driving the truck". Outside The Cat's, Mike performs with a great many bands and is also a professor at Millersville University.

Drummer Doug Kulp keeps The Cat's swinging with tight "2 beat" rhythms and tasty, perfectly-placed cymbals hits. Often the best dressed Cat on stage, it's a shame he sits in the back of the band.
